External access

Our WWW information is available to anyone. There is easy access to our machines from college for any machine with X server capability (readily available for PCs and Macs). Students can then have the same working environment whether they're working at the department or from a college micro. Some students are already using this method to do coursework, examples papers (especially Matlab problems) and for private study: e.g. "what if" simulations. It is part of the university's IT policy to encourage students to have their own college-based machines. As we already support people doing this, we are confident that we are ready to deal with such a transition in working practice.
