Matlab has been updated to version R2006b, running the java desktop by default. On the linux servers, the Symbolic Math Toolboxes aren't supported.
batch has been replaced by Grid Engine (for running long programs). See http://www-h.eng.cam.ac.uk/help/unix/GridEngine/
