CUED ftp - using sftp

The main CUED ftp server (ftp.eng.cam.ac.uk) no longer supports authenticated user connections, as these are insecure and risk exposing users' passwords. Only "anonymous" ftp connections are now supported.

The same functionality as was provided by authenticated ftp connections is now available (but more securely) by using sftp which is part of the Secure Shell (ssh) package.

This help page provides pointers to client programs for using sftp to transfer files to/from CUED.

If you want help with the various facilities for "anonymous" ftp connections, you should go to this page.

sftp servers are remotely accessible on the same machines that support external ssh connections.
NOTE - this does not include ftp.eng.cam.ac.uk.
