Main fileserver: Structure, Resilience and backup strategy
Users home directories are held on replicated servers. This means that
there is one server which you access and a copy on a second server,
providing the backup. The servers are protected by their own
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and they are housed in different
computer rooms (this configuration of hardware and locations may change to
reflect the future needs of the department). Every third of a year, during
the holidays, we take an archive backup which we undertake to keep for 5
years and then destroy.
