The Operator Office
The Operators are on duty Monday to Friday ...
during term-time between 08:45 - 20:45 (Fridays - 17:00)
out of term between 08:45 - 17:00
The Teaching System
The teaching system operates continuously throughout the year, with the
possible exception of the Christmas to New Year period . The system is normally
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, but it may not be
possible to fix problems rapidly outside the above hours. There are no formal scheduled maintenance periods but early morning (between 08:00 and 09:00) and
Thursday evening are the most often used times. Scheduled downtime will be
advertised as long as possible in advance, on the online system news at: http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/info/sysnews.
Most of the time, all users have equal priority but, during term-time, teaching
has priority during the periods 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-18:00. This applies
both to access to individual workstations and the use of shared resources,
primarily the main fileserver. Restrictions on research use during these times
are discussed in the help topic Non-teaching Use of the System.
The Design and Project Office (DPO)
The Design and Project Office (DPO) is locked at 22:00, Monday-Saturday, when
undergraduates are required to leave. Postgraduates and staff may enter the
DPO at night and weekends.
The servers for the DPO system may be accessed over the network, both
from within the Department and also from offsite.
