Programs

The documention for nearly all the hundreds of installed programs are contained in online manual pages - read them using xman. The commonly needed programs are available as icons or menu items on the standard set-up. Double-click on the icons to start them; use the programs' Exit or Quit button to stop them. You can also start most programs by typing their name on the command line. If you start a program from the command line you can stop them in emergencies by holding down the Ctrl button and pressing C.

• ABAQUS
• ANSYS
• CES (to download either the full version of CES or the cut down version. PIN-protected)
• CES EduPack 2007 (material selection software) is on the machines in EIETL
• CFD (Fluent)
• COMSOL
• dynamics (for 1B dynamics)
• Geany
• gibbs - equilibrium conditions in chemical reactions. Start it by typing its name on the command line. It has in-built help.
• gimp
• Gnuplot
• Grid Engine (for running longer programs)
• GSA programs (on the PCs in the EIETL). Allan McRobie has some written instructions, so please get in touch with him first - email fam
• Labview
• Mathematica - Divisions A and F have licenses - see the Mathematica: Unlimited Use Licence Deal/Contract page and DAMTP's Installing Mathematica on your own computer page. On the central CUED system, MathematicaPlayer is installed.
• Matlab
• octave
• LibreOffice
• PATRAN
• Pro/ENGINEER.
• rankine - heat. Start it by typing its name on the command line. It has in-built help.
• spectra - signal processing. Start it by typing its name on the command line. It has in-built help.
• VMD
• VNC
• Word
• xfig
