Department of Engineering

Availability of SharePoint Online

On January 29 2018 the University Information Services (UIS) announced the launch of a new self-service SharePoint online service to Institutions participating in the University's Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (ESS) Agreement. The service is provided free at the point of use.

From Monday 12 February, UIS will start promoting the availability of the service to key stakeholders including Heads of Schools and Bursars, and potential end-users including administrative staff and research groups.

Technical support

UIS will only provide support in the use of the service itself; beyond that, it is assumed that institutional IT staff using this service will be familiar with SharePoint administration. Similarly, UIS will not be providing SharePoint Online support to end users, who are expected either to know SharePoint already or be prepared to familiarise themselves with it.

From an Engineering Information and Computing Services (ICS) perspective IT staff within the Department do not currently have the knowledge or expertise to fully support end users of the SharePoint online service. Once a better understanding of local demand in Engineering can be established we will be better placed to determine what IT training and local support resources should be made available.

If you are interested in using the SharePoint online service it would be helpful if you could contact the IT Helpdesk and provide details of your proposed use case in order that we can aim to determine suitability and offer some initial guidance.
