Some common graphics viewers
There are 100s of graphics file formats around. See our Some Common Graphics File Formats page for a list of just a few.
The easiest way to view a file's contents is to click on its icon. This should launch an appropriate program to view that type of file, but there may be alternative programs. Here's a list of some viewers that we have
- evince - displays postscript and PDF files
- kghostview - displays postscript and PDF files
- kpdf - displays postscript and PDF files
- xpdf - displays postscript and PDF files
- gs - displays postscript and PDF files
- acroread - displays PDF files
- xfig - displays FIG files
- xdvi - displays DVI files produced by LaTeX
- gwenview - displays folders of image files (useful when browsing)
- Gimp - loads, saves and manipulates most image formats
- Matlab - loads its own files. Has limited support for jpeg, etc.
