What is Level 2 PostScript?

Level 2 PostScript is a more sophisticated version of postscript. It is supported by newer versions of ghostscript and by newer printers (including CUED's ljmr1 and ljmr2). Amongst the facilities it provides are color extensions, support for fonts with many characters, filters (for compression, etc) and improved image handling (inclusion of JPEG files, etc).
