Macintosh fonts
- Bitmapped - fixed resolution. Cannot be scaled well. Used for the
screen.
QuickDraw is a set of graphics commands and routines called by MacOS.
It can scale bitmap screen fonts and derive bold, oblique, etc,
variations.
- Postscript - for the printer.
- Adobe's ATM is as subset of the ps interpreter that runs on the Mac,
not in the printer. Needs a single bitmap font plus a printer font.
- Apple's TrueType (built into system 7) - a master from which the printer
and screen fonts can be generated (shape can change according to size).
System 7 shows the System as a suitcase. Suitcases can be opened in
the same way as folders.
To install fonts, just drag the font files from a suitcase onto the
System file.
If you click on a bitmap font's icon, you'll see some sample text. If
you click on a TrueType icon, you'll be shown text in a variety of
sizes.
Suitcase - a collection of fonts, DAs, and System files.
