Course Accreditation
Chartered Engineers hold the highest status in the profession and to become one you need to have studied on an appropriately accredited course, before embarking on your professional development. The various Engineering Institutions function as the qualifying bodies overseeing both academic qualifications and industrial training. All the four-year (MEng) courses offered by the Department of Engineering at Cambridge are accredited as fully satisfying the educational base for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) by one or more of the following bodies:
- the Institution of Civil Engineers
- the Institution of Engineering and Technology
- the Institute of Highway Engineers
- the Institution of Highways and Transportation
- the Institute of Measurement and Control
- the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
- the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine
- the Institution of Structural Engineers
- the Royal Aeronautical Society
and satisfy the requirements for Corporate Membership of the Institutions (which one will depend on the options you choose). Corporate Membership is a sufficient qualification for the title Chartered Engineer conferred by the Engineering Council after a period of industrial training and responsible experience, usually of the order of three or four years duration after graduating.
