Exchange Schemes

Some students following courses in Engineering have the chance to spend their third year at another of the world's leading universities. At the end of their academic year abroad, they return to complete their fourth year of studies in Cambridge.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

The exchange scheme with MIT, initiated in 2000, is sponsored by BP and accommodates up to 15 students from the Department of Engineering each year. Selection is competitive but carries with it a bursary to cover the additional 'out-of-pocket' expenses.

École Centrale Paris

An exchange, sponsored by Schlumberger, with École Centrale Paris, one of the Grandes Écoles most distinguished in Engineering, was established in 2008 under the framework of the Erasmus scheme. Participating students are chosen based on both academic and linguistic ability. There is an intensive language course at the Cavilam Centre in Vichy for students who have a confirmed place on the exchange.

National University of Singapore (NUS)

An exchange programme with NUS was established in 2010. Selection is competitive but carries with it a bursary sponsored by Shell to cover some of the additional 'out-of-pocket' expenses. Singapore is widely considered as 'soft landing' into Asia and provides a great introduction into technological innovations occurring in the region.

As students who have taken part in these exchange programmes agree, the opportunity to study abroad and develop a global perspective is invaluable.
