Connecting to the Main fileserver

  • We provide storage space on the central systems (Teaching System) for you to store files you have generated. It is not meant for system backups, were you would backup Operating System files.
  •
  • Connecting a Windows PC to the fileserver:   In the bottom left of the screen click the windows logo then click Computer. A new window will open on its menu bar click Map network drive. Where it says Folder, type: \\smb-serv\CRSid (where the CRSid is your user ID, start of your hermes email address). Now click Finish.   A windows Security box comes up. Where it says User name put your CRSid in. Where it say password put your Teaching System password (also known as, Engineering Password). On entering these successfully a new window will come up and you will see the folders and file in your teaching system area. When you want to see these files got to Computer and click on the networked drive. As standard we give each user 5 Gb of storage space.
